Students,

I’m very much looking forward to making music with you this February! We are going to develop our sound, be expressive, and have a great time together! This website is here to help you prepare, but keep in mind that these rehearsal files tend to be somewhat unmusical, ignoring fermatas, and unable to replicate dynamic changes. These files will be great for getting the notes and rhythms, after which you should put them away and begin making expressive music.

If you have any questions, or if you spot any errors that I made in the recordings, send me a note either at bhelsel@ysu.edu or bryanhelsel@yahoo.com. Here is a link to my bio on the YSU website. If anyone is considering YSU, definitely reach out - I’d be glad to chat with you about our program. I’m excited to meet you on February 10, and then to perform with you on the 24th!

Sincerely,

Bryan Helsel, Ph.D.

Tutto lo di

Orlando di Lasso

Click the title for the pdf of the score.

Anytime there is a repeated section, let’s do the repeat quieter like an echo.

When you have a dotted quarter note, and other sections do not, bring your rhythm out.

We’ll do the whole piece twice, with the second time being much faster.

The 3/2 section will be moving along in 1.

Here is a nice recording of the piece.
